Assume you have town water? What is your WH filtering:Sediment, iron, etc..If th 5 u is clogging too frequently, it is doing it's job. maybe you should get WH filter with greater surface area to extend filter life?
I would keep frig. filter and use a GAC type, so that it adsorbs any chemicals and chlorine in drinking water. I would not use GAC for WH, as a GAC is for drinking water. I have well with 5 u and 20 u 1" (big blue) WH filters before my water softener, and all faucets have 5 stage RO, including frig., so i eliminated frig filter. With a well, I don't know what "chemical" are present and how they can fluctuate , so I have two GAC in each RO and replace every four months. With a GAC, you don't know when it reaches adsorb saturation, so it is better to just replace every 1000 G of use..
