Cheap? Ever price an electric golf cart? Hybrids exist because batteries can't do much, and wear out quickly if worked hard or get to hot. The current hybrids batteries have heating and cooling systems in an effort to obtain longer life, and controls that limit the % of discharge. Something like 8% discharge for some of them. The life of all types of batteries is shortened by working (discharging) them hard. Batteries have imperfect chemical reactions. It will be interesting to see how the new all electric cars do. The electric cars GM had a few years ago were just a carefully controlled experiment. None of them were in colder climates. There is no magic bullet yet!
