I recently replaced the head bolts on my 9-3, which must be tightened an additional 90 degrees after two stages of initial torque. I looked into the torque angle gauges that are available, and asked coworkers if they'd ever used one, but the general feeling was that eyeballing should be good enough if you're careful about it.

The way I did it was to place my breaker bar with socket onto the bolt head, and look for a "landmark" that was 90 degrees away from the starting position of the handle. If I couldn't find one, I'd reposition the socket until I did. Once I was satisfied, I heaved on the breaker bar and kept going until the handle lined up with my landmark. Of course, 90 degrees is extremely easy to eyeball!

Since you probably won't have all kinds of engine-bay clutter to use as landmarks, it might be worthwhile to make yourself some kind of template that you can stick around the bolt head. Maybe find a picture of a clock face online, print out a few copies, and cut holes in the centers. All you need is to keep it from moving as you torque the bolt through four "hours" on the clock face.
