Though I certainly understand why you would think so! The '59 had GM's weird X frame, which in my mind would not fair well in an offset crash. Why on earth would they choose a car with an unusual short-lived frame design to represent older cars, 99% of which have a completely different frame design? I like how the article also makes the '59 sound like a behemoth compared to the '06 - they weight within a chunky passanger of each other.
Safety has clearly made massive strides since '59 - I just wish they didn't make this example so self-serving.
