I have been surprised recently at Big Box store prices Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 09:53:56 In Reply to: OT: Is a fixture from Home Depot the same quality as..., AeroLady, Tue, 13 Oct 2009 06:33:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Surprised in that the small "Mom & Pop" stores can often beat their prices with an identical or superior product. Flooring is currently a big area where special runs are made for reduced spec products to be sold at a single national retailer.
Although the big box stores are viewed as convenient, I have never been able to go to a single store of this type and buy all the pieces necessary to complete a plumbing job. A classic example is faucet supply lines. There are numerous styles of line ends; flare, compression nut, rubber conical washer, bell mouth with hat washer, etc. Never has a single Big Box store had all the valves, lines, washers, and nuts to complete this work - regardless of which of the line styles I chose!
If I have an emergency at 8pm on a Sunday night, then I am thankful for Lowe's and Home Depot. Otherwise I try to support the local little guy - and I often save money by doing so!
