I think it's a mistake to assume the Nokians have better grip...
They consistently get mediocre-poor results in tire tests here in Europe. I don't know whether this is because the formulation is different here compared to the States or if it's because the alternatives are simply better here. Either way I would definitely not pick Nokians winter tires over Contis. Especially not at a price premium.
In the brand new test of H-rated winter tires linked below, the WRg2 comes in at #12 out of 18 tires. The following tires are the top 11:
#1: Conti TS830 #2: Goodyear Ultragrip 7+, #3: ESA-TECAR Super Grip 7, #4 Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D, #5: Hankook Icebear 440, #6: Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3, #7: Mayola Davos, #8: Vredestein Snowtrac, #9: Yokohama Wdrive, #10: Semperit Speed-grip, #11: Uniroyal MS plus 66
Info for the test - lower number = better score with 1 being best and 5.5 being worst (dangerously so)
