In looking at my receipt - I went cheap, the Conti Ultra sports were $ 35 for 2 . I'm more concerned with flat avoidance than saving weight - I recall having a set of Kevlars, maybe they were Specialized years back - but still got flats with road tubes - in Colorado particularily in the fall the thorns can be deadly.
So when I rode 27" by 1.25 many years back - used tuffies and rarely got a flat, but those tuffies are too wide for the 700 x 25 tires I ride today, so switched to thorn tubes. When I recently rode over the nail head and it trashed my tire and thorn tube - it was the ist flat I've had in 3 or 4 yrs.
When I ride I see lots of folks with higher end bikes repairing flats, I don't know what tires they are using, only that they are getting flat tires, I don't race the bike so the extra weight of a thorn tube is no matter.
Some of these guys in the bike shops are always trying to sell you the lightest or most expensive racing stuff and that's not what I need.
