Any time the media is reporting on something requiring knowledge not commonly available to every human, there is a high probability it will be reported inaccurately. It is interesting to me that the media is criticized nowadays for political bias, but I think the real problem is what you said: "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story." News has become entertainment and sensationalism.

But you think about it - to become a journalist, you study journalism, not really any of the things you're going to be reporting on. I think the ideal news organization would have a variety of people who have studied/have experience in a wide variety of areas.
