When cutting expensive trim pieces with a compound miter saw, it's a good idea to try out your setting on a piece of scrap wood first. If you did that and saw that the cut didn't go all the way through, you could have shimmed up the lower surface of the saw with a piece of thin plywood. Sorry, but I wouldn't expect much relief from the store.
