I spoke with Matthews Saab, in Vestal (Binghamton), NY, today. The staff was told last week that their Saab dealership is one of the ones being terminated. This large dealer bought out Jim Forno's Saab dealership a couple of years ago, Fornos being one of those wonderful Mom and Pop dealers where a customer to to know everybody, from the techs to the owners.
Matthews staff indicate that they will NOT be able to continue to do warranty work, although they intend to keep working on Saabs for older customers.
Matthews has been good to work with, and the same techs worked on my last Saab for the 8.5 years I had it, and just started on the new Saab 9-3 Combi.
Besides the obviously loss of relationship, I now am faced with traveling over 100 miles to get warranty work on my 2008 Combi which has three more years left on its new car warranty. If Saab does somehow stay in business for the long haul, they have now guaranteed that I will not (essentially cannot) buy a new Saab. Not at 100 miles one way to a dealer and warranty. My first Saab was a Model 96, three cylinder two stroker, nearly 40 years ago. I have to question the genius who decided that I also have to be destroyed as a customer.
Just my $.02. YMMV.
