I doubt Saab is going to be shut down. Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Tue, 24 Nov 2009 16:12:50 In Reply to: GM may shut down Saab, HappyMonday, Tue, 24 Nov 2009 09:02:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Maybe I'm just trying to keep myself optimistic because I bought a second Saab in April and I just threw 2 grand into the first one for a headgasket and timing chain, but I think Saab is too valuable to shut down.
Saab is not Saturn or Pontiac. Those cars really didn't have any technology or design that was valuable. Pontiacs were glorified Chevy rebadges (OK except the Holden), and Saturns were really a cheaper alternative to a Chevy that had a little more "style" (relatively speaking). There was nothing there that "Saturn" or "Pontiac" developed, technologically speaking. Plus those cars were just plain boring anyway.
Saab has some things going for it...years of turbocharging experience, the new XWD system, great suspensions, better engines, an incredible safety record. And most importantly, a loyal following, especially in Europe.
So I think Saab will live on, just like those B engines still cranking with 500k miles on them. And if GM shuts them, then they're f*cking idiots and Audi will get my $$ when my Saabs die.
