Valid point. The auto is probably not long for this world, more than a year or two. I remember reading member stories here about it working fine one day, the next day, NUTHIN'. Replacing it with another unit, swapping it for a manual, both are realistic options... I paid $1900 for an exceptionally sound car, but even "walking away" is not an unrealistic option, depending on the circumstances, and the money/vehicle situation at the time. At this point, even $2500-3000, I'd probably do it, for a vehicle that is otherwise clean.
But circumstances are fluid. And, just for today, this autobox works excellent (engages smoothly & quickly 1-2-3, also R-1-R, downshifted manually, and is quiet at high speeds, for a 3 speed-but could use a 4th; Incidentally, I drove a 900c non-turbo with the automatic, and the way that thing was geared, it was screaming along at like 3200 rpm at 65-70, man those ratios are AWFUL, IMHOP, the Turbo's auto is not ideal but functional, in Seattle's stop-n-go the ratios are better suited, although off the line is not wild. I remember the 5sp in my old sedan... what a lovely gearbox mated to a great powerplant, working as one. Oh, but that linkage before I rebuilt it...was never really which gear I was gonna get!).
My other special car is a Jag, so I'm not entirely foreign to vehicular grief. Maybe in a strange way, it is a part of the equation I enjoy. Regardless, I keep AAA on speed dial, and for some reason my mechanics are always SO happy to see me!
Oh, I still haven't SOLD the Honda... it's skillset may come in useful yet, with that triage room called my driveway. =-)
