which is why I drive some of the most obscure cars on the road today. I have a '91 Alfa Romeo 164 S and a '91 Peugeot 405 Mi16 as my two "classic" weekend toys. My "work" car is a BMW 335d (phenomenal car!!! May be the best car I've ever owned?)...how many of these three have you seen on the road??
I got in to Peugeots back in college, just before Peugeot pulled out of the US market. The 405 Mi16 is such a wonderfully driving FWD car. Drove an '89 Mi16 with 40K on it in '91 and fell in love instantly. Bought an '89 in 2000, restored it, bought the '91 in 2007 and sold the '89 since I didn't need two!
The Alfa was due to my family having one new in '91...it ended up in a snow bank, bashing the front end...it wasn't worth rebuilding back then due to the horrible depreciation (you think Saab has bad depreciation? try Alfa back in the early 90s!!). My '91 164S now has 69K on it, and is in almost perfect condition. Needless to say, now that I'm older can feed feed my hobby, now I have both! Fun, character rich, unique rides that get a lot of comments from people.
I'm likely to pick up a 900 Turbo convertible now....I had a monte carlo yellow 900TC which I sold in 2006....biggest mistake I ever made! Anyone want to sell me theirs? ;-) My beloved Cosmic Blue 9-5 Aero wagon ain't going anywhere...7 yrs of wonderful Saab ownership (with a few hiccups along the way this year...).
What other obscure cars would I like? How about a Sterling 827 SLi hatchback, Merkur XR4ti, maybe a Triumph Stag.....
I really am a glutton for (financial) punishment! LOL
Cheers,
Paul H.
