We had 3 Olds in the 60's and 70's. 65 Cutlass, 70 Toronado, and the worst of the bunch a 78 Cutlass. That thing had a few nice interior features, excellent A/C, but that was about it. A real flexible flyer, lousy suspension, cheapest ball joints you ever saw, lower control arms that were ripped out rather than stamped. And the crowning feature, an engine that had poor lubrication causing it to sound like a thrashing machine at 20K miles. They had that lube problem for years and didn't do anything about it.
GM killed Olds by changing the model names to something that that nobody knew what they were, and sounded like !!!!. Even took off the Olds name to make it look like something unknown.
Was that a plan to kill Olds, or some clueless marketing guys with big hollow heads.
Our first SAAB in 77 was totally different from the ground up, 15" wheels, disc brakes all around, solid body with a real suspension, no grease fittings, an engine that could, and a weak A/C. Haven't had an American car since.
