Having been both a mechanic and a lawyer, I note that neither profession is free from jerks. Also, law students aren't lawyers, but by the time they are in their last year, they think they are. I remember my boss telling me I installing breaker points backwards once, too (working as a mechanic, not a lawyer).
The legal system doesn't guarantee you'll be jerk-free. Oftentimes the jerks are the clients, as in your case. Most of the time, good lawyers and sensible clients compromise things. In your case, you presented your evidence and you won. There are probably automobile diagnostic things that you can't diagnose until you open up the engine or transmission and see the evidence.
