Are you talking about OEM? Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sun, 7 Feb 2010 10:05:55 In Reply to: Why are car mats so expensive?, FL, Sat, 6 Feb 2010 19:34:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If so... they're pretty much expensive just because they can be. Look on eBay for used OEM mats. You can find good deals sometimes.
When I first got my 9-5 it didn't have mats, and it was December in CT so I was really mucking up the carpets. I bought a $12 set of four at Walmart just to hold me over until I found something decent. Holy dear GOD they SMELLED like rubbery garbage. Literally, garbage. I had to take them out of my car the fumes were so bad. Even my mom got in my car and said something like, "does it smell like dead fish in here?"
I think the OEM mats are made of more natural fibers like wool so they don't stink and are a bit more durable, so that could add to the extra price.
I ended up getting some custom Berber mats from State of Nine for about $130. They're very thick and durable, but I missed the OEM look so I found an OEM set on eBay in decent shape for $40. I use the Berbers in the winter now.
