Five new SAAB wipers, disappointing appearance Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 13 Feb 2010 08:30:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I needed new wipers on my 9-5 again, and remembered how well the wipers are lasting on my wife's 9-3SC. 3-1/2 years with no streaksing or missed spots on her car. The ANCO and Bosch wipers I had been buying for my car were only lasting 1 year per set.
I bought all new wipers for both cars and just installed them. The GM packaged SAAB wipers are a disappointment compared to the factory units I removed from her car. The rear window wiper appeared identical, but the fronts are cheaply made.
Lighter gage metal in the main beam. The tiny spreader arms are plastic rather than metal. The anchoring clip is a small, stiff, piece of thin plastic rather than a robust piece of high durometer urethane.
One other strange observation. Although we considered the Cadillac BLS to be a clone of the 9-3SS/SC, the BLS uses 9-5 wipers rather than the 9-3SS/SC units. The 9-5 driver's side wiper is one inch shorter than the 9-3SS/SC wiper, while the passenger side wipers are identical. The rear window wipers are also identical for the 9-5SC and 9-3SC.
