Out son and daughter-in-law lived in Saipan for nearly a year. We did the AT&T phone card deal for strictly audio, but found the most satisfying mode of communication was the "free" internet call using our web cam.
Audio and video, no cost for time, and the time lag for a call from Michigan to a remote Pacific Island was only 2 seconds or less.
We placed/received our calls using AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) but never tried Skype which seems preferred by many. The phone card was convenient for telling the other party to "turn on your computer", but most of our audio & video calls were placed after simplying notiicng the other party was on-line in our AIM friends list.
