My wife's computer/netbook got hit with this gem of a torturer.
AVG antivirus did not defend against it, and the thing either is immune to Adaware or cripples Adaware.
The malware gets on, says you have a virus, blocks any other programs from openning and says they are infected, and changes IE to prevent you from Internet accessing sites for repair. It hen holds you for a ransom saying if you pay a fee it will remove the viruses, all while it is makingbelieve every program you try to open on your computer is infected.
I have zone alarm, so that slowed it up, as it needed permission to access the Internet. I just turned the computer off, turned it back on, and it locked up the malware with zone alarm so I could fix things. I neither chose allow or deny, and that kept it in check while I used Google to search terms "antivirus soft", "removal tool".
I also have another netbook that I used to search the same terms, so I could read instructions as I performed procedures. Made the fix easier.
I found steps to fix, and I did.
You need to do a boot and press F8 to get into safe mode with networking (or something like that...not just safe mode as you need to network).
Then you open Internet Explorer (IE)
Then you need to go to the tools in Internet explorer, hit connections, go into LAN, and uncheck the allow proxies box.
By doing this you cripple the programs ability to lock you out of the Internet.
Then you can search out with the software they tell you to use or you can do it manually as one site tells you what to do.
Anyway, look out for this fake antivirus software called antivirus soft, as it is a real and annoying SCAM.
I saw if for what it was and did not sign up for its activation fee which is really a ransom fee to release your computer from its locked up state.
Others might get confused so I write this long-winded note.
