Near Niagara Falls, there are businesses that advertize storage space to rent to Canadians, apparently for Canadians to store purchased items and items used on extended visits to the US. In the malls in Erie County, NY, one can sometimes see bags of old clothing, with our good friends from Ontario apparently wearing some of the new clothes home, only being a couple of miles from the border.
Depends how far you were from the seller, but having the new (used) parts installed in the US would likely have obviated the whole question. What percentage of the population of Canada lives within how many miles of the US border?
Here we avoid most of that sales tax problem by not having health care for many citizens, just for temporarily insured corporate employees and permanently insured government employees and retirees.
