Jim, Gene, thanks a ton. This has been very informative and helpful.
Jim, the sensor in the radiator that I found looking at the car was on the passenger side, at the bottom. It's vertically mounted with the connector coming in at the top. It's a pretty fat piece - would require a wrench in the 20mm+ range to remove.
On the Honda radiator drawing there's a "SENSOR ASSY., WATER TEMPERATURE", item #10 for $32. It shows as plugging in at the bottom of the radiator, on the back side. I didn't see this when checking my car, though I wasn't exactly looking for it.
