Basic, REALLY basic plumbing Q

I just installed a new shower head and that pipe for the shower that goes into the wall. I used not the teflon tape, but the teflon goop in the tube, filling all the pipe threads with it.
So to align the shower head/pipe so it's straight, I tightened the pipe into the wall but had to back it off just a bit (like from 7 to 6 on a clock).
Q: Is this thing going to be dripping in the wall for the next five years? Or is it okay to tighten such a connection, then back it off a bit.
Or should I redo it and rather than tightening then backing off, just tighten but not to 7 but just to 6.
Make sense?
It's for my niece's shower so I won't be around to hear/see if there's a leak.
TIA,
Mike
