Part number clarification: First of all, the model that I have is a WES50, not WCS50 - my bad. Replacement is WES-51.
Technique clarification: I don't advocate slowly heating up the work, but do recommend using a "reasonable" temperature for soldering. At the extreme, going in with a 900 degree soldering iron on a fragile PCB with 0201 parts (really small stuff) will vaporize the foil traces instantly. To work properly, the solder needs to melt quickly and completely, otherwise you will get "cold solder joints". The right temperature for your soldering work is learned by experience.
