I have been struck by Subaru running an ad showing a new Sub driving in a junk yard and retrieving the gear shift knob from his old, slightly bent Sub and declaring it saved my life.
A few years ago the Insurance statistics showed the lowest fatality rate of all cars was the Saab 9000. I have had several family members certainly owe not just their lives, but not being seriously injured in very serious accidents, all in Saab's.
Yesterday I unfortunatly saw a Subaru Outback that had gone off the road and hit a tree on I 87 in Upstate NY. The traffic was slowed and the unfortunate victim's body had been removed, although it was hard to imagine how. There was massive interior deformation and the wheel and dash were literally displaced back to the back of the drivers seat.
Does this mean that Subaru is bad and Saab is good ? I think that is simplistic but the chances of survival in that Subaru seemed non existant.
Thats why I want everyone I care about to be in the safest car we can afford and to make that the first priority.
