The microwave uses the middle wifi frequencies to transmit. It is possible to mess up wifi from hundreds of feet away and still be within legal limits (less than a couple watts of leakage I think). With G, N, and all the high speed wifi options, it doesn't much to mess them up.
You could change your wifi to use upper or lower channels instead of middle ones.
Your wireless home phone should not be 2.4ghz with wifi in the house; that's going to mess with things too.
If the microwave messes up your cell, that's potentially serious as they are on different frequencies to the carrier. But if you are using bluetooth for cell use, that's 2.4ghz as well so it's subject to interference.
I'm sure it's a crude test, but can you light a flourescent bulb not plugged in near your microwave? Many radar systems and such that microwave is derived from can do that and would indicate far too much leakage.
