A good friend and biz colleague has been a Chevy and Pontiac guy for half of forever. When GM pulled the plug he sorta sighed, said to me "Gee, Pontiac and Saab going away at the same time," and moved on. Now he sets his sights on some Chevy. He has a hot-rod mentality, so to him the badge is sorta incidental.
There are certainly Pontiac fans out there, but there weren't rallies of support for the brand like there was for Saab. Saabs are much more unique, attract a different kind of buyer/owner, while Pontiacs are much more appliance-like. They are common, and that doesn't inspire passion.
Still, I thought the G8 I rented a year ago was what I'd like to see in the Saab line up, even though it was RWD (which is fine with me). And I think the Solstice should have been made into a new Sonnet.
