Are you sure that you can't program the U-verse remote? My parent's ordered U-Verse and I went to setup everything for them. Their Sony TV remote is now in the "junk drawer" after I programmed it to the U-Verse controller.

Here's some info from their site that shows how to set this up. Below that is a link to get the codes for your brand of equipment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can program your AT&T U-verse remote control to operate different TV-connected devices. Each device has a manufacturer's four-digit code which your remote control must recognize. You can program the manufacturer's four-digit code manually or you can use the remote control's automatic code finder.

Programming Manually
Please Note: Turn on the device (TV, DVD, etc.) you want to program and point the remote control directly at the device.

Locate the four-digit set-up code for your device. Many are listed here.
Still having trouble finding a remote control set-up code? Search online to find more set-up codes.
Press and hold the appropriate Mode key (TV, DVD or AUX) on the remote control.
Without releasing the selected Mode key, press and hold the OK key simultaneously.
Release both the Mode key and the OK key at the same time. All the Mode keys should flash twice.
Enter the four digit setup code by pressing the number keys (0-9) on the remote control. The Mode key will flash three times indicating correct entry and return to normal operation.
When an invalid code is entered, the selected Mode key will give a long flash to indicate that you have not entered the setup code correctly. If this happens, start the steps over.
Point the remote control at the programmed device and press the Power key once. The device should turn off. If it does not turn off, repeat Steps 1 through 7 trying each code for your brand until you find the correct code.
Repeat as needed to program multiple devices.

To use the remote control for the TV Receiver again, press the AT&T Mode key.

Programming with the Automatic Code Finder
The automatic code finder cycles through all possible codes for the type of device you are programming until the correct code has been found.
To program your remote control with the automatic code finder feature make sure that the device you want the AT&T U-verse remote control to control is ON. If you are programming the AT&T U-verse remote control to control your TV, make sure your TV is ON. You can use this same process to program your DVD or other Audio/Visual device.
To control your TV or DVD: With your TV or DVD on, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN, the TV or DVD Mode Key on the Remote Control. The mode keys are located across the top of the AT&T U-verse Remote Control. While holding down the TV or DVD Mode Key, press and release the "OK" button. If done correctly the Mode Keys will blink twice. The remote is now ready to be programmed.
The next step is to enter the code for the automatic code finder feature. That code is "922". Enter the code "922" using the Remote Control's keypad. You have 10 seconds to enter this code before the remote times out. When 10 seconds have elapsed the Mode Keys will flash once. If this happens just start over.
The next step is start the automatic code finder search. Make sure you aim your remote control at your TV or DVD. Then press and release the "play" button on the remote control. Now press the "FAST FOWARD" key multiple times until the device turns off. Then press "Enter" to save the code. Your remote now has the correct code. If done successfully the Mode buttons will flash three times. Press Power again to turn on your TV or DVD.
When the code has been entered correctly, the appropriate Mode Key will flash three times. To check to see if this code works, press the Power Button. If the TV or DVD does not turn off, then the code is wrong for your TV or DVD and you need to try another code listed in the Manufacturer's Code List

Please Note: Some manufacturers have multiple codes listed in the Manufacturer's Code List Codes may allow you to operate some but not all of the device's functions with the AT&T U-verse remote control. You may need to try additional codes until you find the one that allows you to control all of the device's functions.

To control other devices: With the device you wish to control ON, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN, the AUX Mode Key on the Remote Control. The mode keys are located across the top of the AT&T U-verse Remote Control. While holding down the AUX Mode Key, press and release the "OK" button. If done correctly the Mode Key will blink twice. The remote is now ready to be programmed.
Press and release the PLAY key then press:
1 for VCR
2 for Receiver/Tuner
3 for Amplifier
4 for Home Theater In The Box

The Aux Mode key will flash indicating correct entry.

Now press the "OFF" key multiple times until the device turns off.
To save the code, press the ENTER key on the remote control (bottom right) or press the EXIT key to return to normal operation.

The selected Mode key will flash three times and return to normal operation.

If no valid code is found, the red light will flash two times and the remote control will return to normal operation.
Turn the device back on using the remote control. If this doesn't work start over, or try programming the remote control manually.
Press the appropriate Mode key on the remote control to work with the selected device. To use the remote control for your AT&T U-verse TV Receiver, press the AT&T Mode key.
