Don't get me wrong, there is a place for Italian design. I just don't see how SAAB gets back to their roots by hiring an Italian/American designer du Jour.
This is only my personal opinion (and aesthetic taste is very subjective) but I think the Giugiaro-designed 9000 and Sonett III didn't reflect good SAAB design from an appearance standpoint. To me they looked like what they were Italian designs of the era.
I guess I should reserve my opinion for when some designs actually come off Mr. Castriota's sketch pad.
