So my daughter and I are driving across country in my '96 9000 semi-Aero. We did a quick bio break somewhere east of Indianapolis and switch seats. As I'm getting in on the passenger side I see some brownish fluid in front of the RF tire. Definitely from my car. Oil is fine. Coolant great. The PS reservoir is very low. Look underneath and see a steady drip. Groan. I was guessing a leaking hose or bad pump. This is not something I could fix without help.
So we stock up on PS fluid and head west. Saab indies and dealers are thin on the ground in Indiana but I figured I could find some help there. I stopped but couldn't find hotspot, so I call my other daughter back home and have her pull up Saabnet and the mechanics list. She tells me about Road Tested Saabs in Indy.
I'd seen RTS's ads in the TSN classifieds and figured they were a good outfit. So I call them. Get voice mail. We stop and add more fluid. Then Steve calls me back as we're getting into the outskirts of Indy. We add more fluid. Steve makes sure I can get to his shop, which is not easy to find for someone who doesn't know the area. But my GPS knows where to go. And we keep adding fluid.
And when I get there, about the time the pump dies. I meet Dan, who posts here, and has been wrenching on Saabs for a couple of decades. He has a used pump handy, puts the beast up on the lift, and goes to work. A couple hours later the job is done, I pay the bill and we're on the road again.
This was an amazing experience. Not only did the mechanics listing tell us who to reach out to, Road Tested Saabs proved itself to be the kind of Saab shop we all need to have nearby.
Steve made sure we were well taken care of, Dan did fine work, and we had a great time talking about Saabs while he worked. While the adventure threw us off schedule by a few hours, it was the kind of experience that shows the kind of family we have as Saab guys and the power of this amazing Saabnet community. And how great shops like Road Tested Saabs make all the difference.
Thanks again Steve and Dan for making what could have been a real show stopper a reasonably pleasant experience.
Road Tested Saabs--- you guys rock!
