All things considered, it was just the best decision for what would work for her. And the family budget. All the stuff my car needed was stuff I had to do anyway, so this put her in a pretty solid car that should be fine for her. So I put on a reman alternator, new serp belt and pulleys, replaced the spastic starter with a used one, did my usual "June Tune," swapped the lousy, defective Centric rear calipers with remans from AutoZone to eliminate the sticking e-brake, put on new exhaust hangers, and we were good to go. And now the PS pump should be OK, too.
About 3000 miles later, with the exception of the PS pump going south, the car ran flawlessly. I was amazed at its performance at 5,000 to 10,500 feet in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. She's realizing the difference between a CS and my semi-Aero. "Boy, this car has a lot more power than mine!" "This car handles a lot better than mine does!" Well, yeah! Nothing like a good suspension and 40 more horsepower to make an impression on someone familiar with a LPT autobox model!
When I get back home I get to dig into her '95 CS. First up is the heater core. I probably won't do her A/C unless it will be easy and cheap. Then comes a few other things it needs and I'll drive it until she gets back.
