I have been eBaying for years now. I actually did it full time for a few years, and for the last 2-3 have been part time (I am quitting now, as I am going back into the corporate world).

I was not super high volume (my eBay ID is rob-catron should anyone want to check it out - I have almost 12k feedback).

EVERY week, I would have 2-3 that would never respond or pay. I generally find that if they do not pay immediately at auction end, they are NOT going to pay (I would say 98% of the time). No response, no pay, etc. You can say that people are gone out of town, etc, but lets face it - most people that are eBaying have phones, laptops, etc that they can contact you (and pay) with, but I know there are may be exceptions (it is just with my experience, I have not found many).

I believe now that the process that you can iniate the unpaid buyer dispute is much less than it used to be (I think you can start it after 4 days) - do NOT waste any time - get that started as soon as your 4 days are up. You can simply go to that listing, click on the "Report a problem" link and then it will walk you through with a wizard (and let you know if it is too early or not).

There is actually an automated process now, though it may be for power sellers only - not sure. I don't trust it - I still like handling manually.

Like you, I always hated it because normally it is on high dollar items, that time is off the essence on..NEVER fails!

Good luck!
