As to the viability of the company....after seeing what happened with in the auto industry over the last year, how viable is any company? I would not worry about loss of warranty since by law the warranty has to be honored even if the company goes out of business. Saab has a fully funded business plan as they start their future as an independent company and expect to be profitable again by the end of 2011. So, is everything guaranteed? No, but they are in fairly decent financial shape and there seems to be pent up demand for the new 9-5 and its SportCombi version that will come out next year, as well as for the upcoming new 9-4X. The replacement for the current 9-3 is planned for 2012.
Resale value is hard to predict. Saabs have not traditionally held their value well for resale, even though many Saabs continue to run up to 200,000 miles and beyond. Resale value is usually dependent on the perceived desirability of the car. Saab has to rebuild some buzz about the brand...and it is hard to say how that will impact resale value.
Having said all that, the 9-3 SportCombi is a great vehicle and if it meets your needs in terms of size and features, and you can get a good deal, I would say go for it!
