Ads and an approach that DOESN'T appeal to everyone. The fact is they aren't going to outdo the Germans at anything, they aren't going to be the new 3 series. But what they can do is be an alternative, something different, something the others aren't. Some of the cleaverest and best advertsing in history was done by VW in the '50's and 60's. The Beetle was an antiquated car even then and yet they sold the hell out of it simply by being the antithesis of what everyone else was doing. When I see the number of Saabs old and new here in Aspen (where people can afford any car they want), in spite of GM's efforts, in spite of the fact I don't even know where the nearest dealer is, it tells me there is a viable audience for a car that's different, that ISN'T what others are doing. That's the market Saabs need to appeal to. PS I spent most of my working life doing corporate marketing video and the one thing I learned is that nobody truly knows what will or not work, although a lot of people think they do.
