It's too big for my needs, too, but there are lots of people who buy an upscale car who want --even demand-- the size. It's a 4-door sedan, after all, and it will be cross-shopped with Audi A6, MB C- and E-class, BMW 5-series. So Saab needs the size to play in that space.
I think of how big my 9Ks are (especially inside) compared to my wife's 9-5 and one kid's OG 9-3. The differences are just a few inches but they are huge in terms of feel and sense of space. I remember driving a friend's new '87 9K when I had my '84 C900. It felt HUGE! But now that space is welcome.
With a new 9-3 coming, and hopefully a 9-2, Saab will have a great line-up.
One thing we all have to remember is that Saab has to make cars that fit market demand. That doesn't mean they can't be distinctly Saabs, but it does mean they have to compare really well against the competition and that includes size.
