3400 kbps on Comcast Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 9 Oct 2010 12:38:26 In Reply to: how fast is that?, Railhead [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 9 Oct 2010 00:49:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just did the CNet speed test twice, and today is a fast day for internet here at the house
I keep being pressured by U-Verse to switch to their service but the savings disappear if you request connection speeds equal to what I "should" be receiving on Comcast.
My biggest gripe with U-verse is that the telephone solicitors can't tell me how my home will be connected. The voice service currently enters via standard telephone wire in the center of the basement under the two story part of the home. The cable/internet service enters through the far outer wall of the single story wing built on a slab foundation. No easy way to connect the two.
Oh, and I have an in-ground pool in the back yard close to the house with a poured concrete deck surrounding it. I installed one piece of PVC conduit under the pool deck that the current phone wires use to reach the house, but accessing either open end of this conduit to pull a new wire would be messy.
One person told me the U-Verse would enter in both locations so as to not disturb internal wiring, and that U-Verse rents bandwidth from Comcast on the exisitng neighborhood buried cable/fibre optics to ease connection to customers. No one else had been able to verify this.
