Validation of Purchasing Decision for 2008 SportCombi

I just bought a 2008 Sportcombi (in the rare Parchment Silver color) and could not be happier with this perfect balance of style/pep/performance/mileage. It will be the new go-to car alongside my 1999 9-3 Hatchback Emeritus (185,000).
Now seeking to have my purchasing decision logic validated by fellow Saab fans, or at least to invite discussion:
- I think the odds of Spyker surviving beyond another 2 years are 50/50 at best. Sorry to be a gloomy Gustav, but I just know that there aren’t enough of us Saabphiles to support even a mid-scale manufacturer and the necessary economies of scale just don’t add up when you sell under 100,000 cars/year;
- I didn’t want to pay for a warranty that I may never be able to use. Now that Saab is no longer a GM subsidiary, there just ain’t no way if Spyker goes under, the U.S. Government is going to support a Dutch company that owns a Swedish company. No strategic interest for the Government, no political will, and no money.
- But, I’m hedging my bets: made a point of buying a 2008 so as to have nearly 20 months of manufacturer warranty, and of course the 5/100,000 powertrain warranty (2008 was the last year it was offered);
- All said and done, about $17,500 for a mint condition off-lease automobile (with cold weather and moonroof package), about $3,000 - $4,000 off what a dealer wanted for a CPO 2008
What do you all think – What are your views on Spyker’s long term viability? Was this a reasonable approach? If I really believed that Spyker would be around in the future, I would probably have gone for the CPO, or maybe even a brand spanking new car.
Now if two years go by and Saab takes off, then I’ll be first in line at the dealership.
