OT: PC Hardware question...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 15:36:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We own a two year old Dell Vostro 410 small business PC for home use. Today I received a notice form Dell asking me to download new system utility software, which I did. Following download the software did a system check looking for problems.
Everything passed except the "Multicore Test" of the CPU. I received a WARNING test result, retested as per recommendations and received a WARNING a second time. The brief descriptive notes say this is the result of one or more CPU cores not working/responding correctly.
The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor.
Do these repeated semi-failures of performance tests indicate a new CPU should be on my immediate purchase list? Has the Q6600 been a source of common trouble? Since it appears this CPU is now obsolete, should I be looking at Q8300 as current production replacement?
Thanks,
