Drove a 2011 9-5 4 cylinder Posted by DE [Email] (#2598) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DE) on Fri, 26 Nov 2010 06:59:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This am I took my '01 9-5 wagon in to the dealer and took a test drive in a 2011 9-5 4 cyl. I liked it alot. I had not liked some of the early photos I saw, but I have to say after viewing the car in person, I think it's gorgeous. Doesn't look real big, the car seems all of a piece and quite distinctive. The car I drove was a premium, with 18" wheels and Conti all season tires.
Doesn't ride or handle anything like my old 9-5. Much tighter steering, no noticeable body roll in normal cornering. Didn't drive to me like a big car. Compliant over bumps. Handled fine on wet roads in rain.
Seemed plenty peppy with the automatic. I've never owned an automatic (and I'm 60) but I my next car will be an auto so my wife can also drive it.
Seats had good, firm lumbar support. I sat in an Aero and would have to say those seats seemed a bit better because of the bolstering, but the 4 cyl seats were plenty good.
Pretty good, flexible storage area with the rear seats folded down. The trunk is pretty big. I've driven wagons, but could get by with this setup. With this car I think I'd want the sedan because it's so pretty.
Buying a new Saab is a bit risky, but I'm thinking about it. They have a java/parchment premium coming in with nav (I know it's more efficient to just get your own nav, but I could indulge myself), and I may find this tempting.
