From what I understand, it is primarily due to the fact that GM did not allow Saab dealers to offer lease deals during the whole sale process, so Saab went through a whole year with no ability to lease cars in the US. Customers who were at the end of their lease and wanted to lease again had to go to other brands. (And apparently the lease deals offered by GM the 6-8 months prior to the absence of leases were not that good.)
Saab owners who lease wanted to be loyal, but had no option. Saab owners who buy usually are very loyal.
