I've often wondered why there was so much hate for the simple station wagon. I fondly recall the years spent in a Ford LTD "Country Squire" (yes, with the faux-woodie cladding), Dad at the wheel, Mom riding shotgun, my Sister and I in the back, and the dog in the back. The only one of us that got traumatized (far as I know, anyway...) was the dog, when we first tried towing a pop-up camper. Dog ended up cowering by Mom's feet!
I've never understood the need for people to have an SUV to handle those three days of slight snow they get, on average. But SUVs were never about need, only image, or perceived need. Why else would they be far more scarce in a state like Maine, than they are in New Jersey, where the average 5'4" 120 lb Soccer Mom feels compelled to haul herself around all day in a 5,500 lb behemoth, where "off roading" means a puddle in the Macy's lot...
Don't get me wrong, for a certain segment of the population, an SUV is the ideal vehicle, but...
