I've owned 4 9000s and like them a lot but they were probably the most expensive to own Saabs I've had. On the other hand my NG900 ('98 SE) was one of the cheapest, most relaible Saabs I've ever owned. In terms of bang for the buck you can't beat late NG900/OG9-3's. In addition 9-5's are out there in the same price range. 9000's are getting very hard to find--if I ran across a really nice low mileage creampuff I'd be inclined to want to preserve it. But a slightly raggy car you wouldn't mind using as a daily driver would probably end up being a real money pit, so that isn't a good solution either. For a daily driver I'd stick with the newer Saabs. As for Volvos I've had two 850's, two 960's, two 740's (one a turbo wagon)plus a few others over the years. I really liked the 960's--they had the RWD simplicity and a locking diff so they were decent in snow. I'll probably come down to what you find, but I don't think you'd go too wrong on any of the cars above.
