I suspect Ryan H isn't so concerned with the transaction and is just tickled to have the car and can afford the payments. Many folks don't have the luxury of shopping interest rates and payments, but instead are just happy to get financing of any type or rate. But I dunno', I just suspect as this finance discrepancy wasn't the top of his list like it might be to you and I.
In California the DMV, department of motor vehicles, would be interested in shady business transactions as cars sales folks and dealers have a DMV license. Used car dealers are required by law to warranty even AS-IS vehicles for 30 days as regards to safety and smog concerns.
I understand your frustration with car sales folks, I have often resembled that remark, and often the Saab salesperson is relegated to Saab as the slowest selling line at a multi-line dealer. And auto sales folks who actually know the Saab product are even rarer.
Many folks shop at dealers for the convenience, availability of financing and trade ins, and security because they have recourse to government agencies, as opposed to the comfort and security of meeting the previous owners. Dealers are the only ones who offer Certified Pre Owned vehicles that handle many of your concerns. I just bought a CPO vehicle myself I so strongly believe in the benefits of that kind of program with a used car.
I could give you countless examples of satisfied dealer customers who bought straight up cars from a straight up dealer and salesperson and countless more examples of dealers stepping up and handling problems on the customers behalf. Marvin K Brown in San Diego is one example of a dealer who sells quality products and stands behind them. Continental Saab in Oceanside is another quality dealer who walks the talk.
