It was back in the early 70's when I ran across a '67 Volvo 122S with 50,000 miles. It was the coupe, red, tan interior, four speed, Michelins, I think it might have even had a sunroof. It drove beautifully and had obviously been well cared for. The dealer who had it was asking more than I wanted to pay, so I walked and figured I'd come back in a few weeks and see if he'd softened up. I thought about that car all week and decided I would go back on Saturday and buy it no matter what. Saturday comes, I go back and the car is gone. Man, I was bummed. Anyway, twenty five years later I'm talking cars with a guy I work with and he's talking about his Volvo. So I ask more, and it turns out it's a '67 122S, in red. It comes out that HE'S the guy who bought it! He'd kept it all that time and had something like 260,000 miles on it and just LOVED the car. A lot of cars have come and gone in my life and don't think too much about any of them. But to be honest, to this day I still think about that car and wish I had bought it. And I don't even remember what I ended up buying instead, but I bet I got a really good deal on it like I do with everything.
