Can a small independent carmaker survive? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sat, 9 Apr 2011 06:51:53 In Reply to: Update on Saab's situation, David in Michigan, Fri, 8 Apr 2011 15:10:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
All of us here want to see Saab succeed, but the question has to be asked. Aside from some super-exotics, how many small independent car companies are left that are able to survive and prosper without the resources of a larger organization? Can Saab really hope to survive on its own? (Developing new models in today's environment requires serious capital.)
Here in the U.S. the last two independents were Studebaker and AMC, and we lost those in 1966 and 1987 respectively. I'm not sure what Saab's prospects are if it is not ultimately taken under the wing of a larger company such as BMW or Fiat.
