If we're really talking end of the world, the answer is a 3rd gen 6.2l/6.5l diesel Chevy truck. GM made bazillions of 3rd gen trucks, meaning pulling parts from wherever you have to be is possible. Somewhere within 25 miles of everyone is a 3rd gen truck. Go with a Suburban and take the whole family, or get a K5 Blazer for just you and a friend. They are enclosed for safe sleeping and protection from the elements, they are tough and can go just about anywhere, and being a primitive diesel they need no electronics to run and no battery to keep them running once they're started. The Detroit Diesel engine is totally reliable, and whether you've got a Turbo 400 or an SM465 you have a pretty much bulletproof drivetrain. The diesel is fairly low compression, and will happily run most varieties of biodiesel so when petroleum gets scarce you still have fueling options. There is a reason the military used the CUCV for so long. It works.
I'm not saying I've put any thought into this, but let's just say my '84 diesel Suburban is ready for biofuel.
(and the apocalypse)
