Pool leak

Over the winter, the water in my 21 years old inground pool drained out down to about 2" left in the shallow end and stopped. After an exhaustive search I am confident that there is no holes in the vinyl liner. I'm thinking maybe the line from the drain in the deep end to the filter has a leak. We had a ground hog burrowing under the concrete deck this winter and I'm thinking it may have nipped it. I finally got the pool filled last weekend and closed all the intake valves but the drain line and got some sand in the filter. Not a lot, but enough to be suspicious. No way I can dig it out to check without breaking the concrete and hand digging--space is tight. I was wondering if anyone knew a guaranteed way of checking if the line has a hole without me digging to check it out.
I have an air valve installed on the line below the shutoff valve that I use to blow it out for the winter. I was thinking of making a plate to cover the drain opening at the bottom of the pool and doing an air-pressure leak-down test. Good idea?
