Bayer Shrub & Tree Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 18 Jul 2011 16:10:29 In Reply to: EAB - emerald ash borer, DougM [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 18 Jul 2011 15:35:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have the only Ash tree remaining in our neighborhood. We planted it one year before EAB took off like wild fire in South East Michigan. Maybe it was saved because it was too immature to support the bug infestations, but I like to think it was because I treat it twice each year (the label says one per year) with the Bayer product. The tree has one or two of the tell-tale D-shaped scars from the egg laying.
It isn't cheap! Nearly $65 for a one gallon jug, and you will reguire one ounce of the solution for each inch of tree circunference measured at chest height.
I would immediately remove all the dead and half dead infected trees to help the others survive. One one good part of the EAB is a sudden resurgence in the number and variety of woodpeckers. Apparently the bugs and larvae are mighty tasty to the birds.
