It looks like it has potential, but I bet if I did an inventory, I'd easily see over 100-200 circumferential inches of ash trees that are still healthy. It started about 5 years ago on the block. Slowly it took out the smaller mountain ashes(orange berries), but now it's working on the larger ash trees at the front of my new lot. The ones in the back don't seem affected yet. Cutting down the dead and infected trees would be quite costly, and treating the half dead would be a waste of money - the half dead ones aren't capable of moving the insecticide up the tree to kill the beetles. If I cut them down, they'd need to be removed from the property(larger expense as opposed to burning), and that wouldn't guarantee the property would be free of them, so the healthy would still need to be treated - but for how many years I wonder?
I have maples as well, and they grow like weeds, so maybe replacing them with maple is a better option. I bought this property for the trees, so losing what I have is a disappointment.
