I have not yet driven one, but I did spent quite some time looking at once while the local GM dealer lost a bunch of my paperwork. I totally agree with your analogy - as a multiple 9k owner the 9-5 was a big letdown in terms of awesomeness, especially in size. I couldn't figure out why Saab would produce a new car smaller than the old, frightfully close in size to the 900/9-3. The new 9-5 feels more like the car it should be in terms of size and fit. I've yet to see one on the road, but I do believe it's a pretty solid entry in its space.
