My suspicions too, to protect SAAB from others... One of SAAB's main suppliers (IAS, AIS?) initiated their own bankruptcy proceedings within the past two or three days. I imagine they are owed money by SAAB, and my initial suspicion is that this move by SAAB is to protect their own dwindling cash reserves from the creditors of this other company.
That being said, the only real salvation I see for SAAB now is to be bought up by another manufacturer. There are a handfull of European, Chinese, Indian, and even Japanese companies who would likely be interested. I think they are all watching the slow death dance from the sidelines so they can swoop in at nearly the last moment for the lowest possible price.
